Guided hiking trail in Xurés: Muíños and nature

Immerse yourself in the unique nature of the Xurés-Gerês transboundary biosphere reserve in southern Galicia with this guided hiking route in a small group, led by professional nature and mountain guides who live year-round in Xurés.

 

Dates:

Weekends in August and September.
Saturdays and Sundays with scheduled times. Other dates on request.

Hot weather? The route is shaded by the forest and, even in August, the temperature along the route will surprise you (in a good way).

The hiking route takes approximately two hours. If you decide to add the boat trip, this one takes an hour and a quarter and can be combined to do both on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, or one on Sunday and the other on Saturday. But we have other combinations available, so you can stay and fully explore the Baixa Limia–Serra do Xurés Natural Park and its secrets.

Itinerary:

Explore one of the most lush and beautiful routes in Muiños, in the Natural Park, accompanied by expert nature guides from Xurés.

“Muiños e Natureza” (mills and nature) is an activity designed for people like you: nature lovers who are curious, active, and eager to discover an authentic destination in a more immersive way.

What does this experience include?

→ Hiking route in the municipality of Muíños. In a forest setting next to the river and with old water mills, you will learn about the biodiversity and ethnographic and natural curiosities of the Natural Park, such as why the municipality of Muíños is called “mills.”

→ Professional local history and nature guide. Led by Cristina, Marta, Ana, or Jesús (all professional nature and environment guides who live year-round in Xurés), you will discover the secrets and curiosities of the Natural Park.

→ (Optional pack) Guided boat tour “Segredos do Xurés” (Secrets of Xurés). Explore the forests and landscapes surrounding the As Conchas reservoir from the water, starting from Muíños. You will sail with an expert guide who will take you to the Roman ruins of Aquis Querquennis and tell you about the legends and history of the dam.

→ (Optional pack) Basic eco-boat tour. Explore the As Conchas reservoir on your own aboard the eco-boat (with a professional skipper).

What you should bring

Bring comfortable clothing. Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.

We will be walking along a river, so mosquito repellent may be advisable.

Is it physically demanding?
Yes and no. The route is 7 kilometers long with low or medium-low difficulty slopes. However, the guides will adapt to the group so that everyone can enjoy the activity, even children or people who do not usually engage in intensive physical activity. In addition, there will be stops along the route to explain the things we see along the way, such as animal tracks and trees, or the water mills that have given this beautiful municipality of Muíños its name.

What happens if it rains?
In the event that rain or extreme heat jeopardizes the safety of the activity, a change of date will be offered.

Is it accessible?
No. Unfortunately, this route is not accessible for people with reduced mobility, and no adaptations can been made.
